Golden Eagles earn two more wins

You can add two more wins to the record of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League's Brantford Golden Eagles as they continue to fly along. On Saturday night at the Brantford and District Civic Centre, the Golden Eagles edged the Listowel Cyclones by a score of 6-5. Daniel Savelli made 44 saves to get the win. Mike McKinley had a goal and three assists to lead the way. Matt Garbowsky had two goals and an assist and Chris Dunham had a goal and two assists. Brock Smith chipped in with two assists. Matt Hill and Luc Boissonneault both had single goals and Luke Van Moerkerke, Justin Prittie, T.J. Fergus, and Mark Madarasz all had single assists. On Sunday night in Owen Sound, the Golden Eagles doubled up the Greys 4-2. Daryl Borden made his debut between the pipes and he made 27 saves to get the win. Garbowsky scored two goals, Dunham had a goal and an assist, and Van Moerkerke had two assists. Prittie had a single goal and Sam Milligan and Boissonneault both had single assists. Next action for the Golden Eagles (25-4-2) is this Saturday night when they visit Cambridge (15-11-3). After that, they head to Waterloo on Sunday night.

Hawks earn a split in weekend action

The Hagersville Hawks of the Southern Ontario Junior Hockey League had two games on the weekend and registered a split. On Saturday night in Hagersville, the Hawks doubled up the Port Dover Sailors by a score of 4-2. Rob Porter made 27 saves to get the win. Kyle Gardener had two goals and Jesse Sommers had a goal and an assist to lead the way. Bob Neilson had a single goal and Brock McEachern, Darren Drehmer, Jay Pepper, Tyler White, Travis Smith, and Derek Medeiros all had single assists. On Sunday night in Burford, the Hawks were edged by the lowly Bulldogs 8-7. Slavko Lysyk made 30 saves to pick up the win. Porter made 28 saves in the loss. Justin Zylstra had two goals and two assists and Jason Watson had one goal and three assists to lead the way. Gardener had three goals in the losing effort. Neilson had two goals and Drehmer and Scott Degraaf had a goal each. The Hawks (8-12-0) are in action again this Sunday night when they host the first-place Delhi Travellers at 7:30 p.m.

Golden Eagles pick up another victory

Matt Garbowsky scored three goals to lead the Brantford Golden Eagles to a 6-2 win over the Cambridge Winterhawks on Thursday night at the Brantford and District Civic Centre. Daniel Savelli made 34 saves to get the win. The Golden Eagles trailed 2-1 after the first period but took control in the second by scoring three goals to lead 4-2 heading into the third period where they added two more goals. Two fights broke out in the third period as John Szasz took on Ben Pearson in what was an entertaining bout and then not too long after, Luke Van Moerkerke and Josh Webber fought in another good tilt. Other point-getters for the Golden Eagles were Jordan Ogilvie with a goal and two assists and Chris Dunham with three assists. Mike McKinley had two assists. Szasz and Mark Madarasz both had a goal and Sam Milligan, Van Moerkerke, Justin Prittie, T.J. Fergus, and Luc Boissonneault all had a single assist. Newly-acquired goalie Daryl Borden, who joiined the team from the Ontario Hockey League's Oshawa Generals in exchange for cash, was Savelli's backup. The Golden Eagles are in action again on Saturday night when they host the Listowel Cyclones. Game time at the Brantford and District Civic Centre is at 7:30 p.m. After that, they travel to Owen Sound on Sunday night to battle the Greys.

Golden Eagles earn a split in weekend action

The Brantford Golden Eagles of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League had their eight-game winning streak snapped on Friday night in Stratford as they were defeated by the Cullitons 4-1. Daniel Savelli made 23 saves in the loss which was only his first of the season. Sam Milligan had the lone goal for the Golden Eagles. They managed to rebound on Saturday night in Cambridge as they cruised past the Winterhawks 5-1. Savelli made 29 saves to get the win. Matt Garbowsky led the way with two goals and two assists. Luke Van Moerkerke and Chris Dunham both had a goal and an assist each. Milligan and Jordan Ogilvie both had two assists. Mark Madarasz chipped in with a single goal. Next action for the Golden Eagles (22-4-2) is this Thursday night when they host Cambridge (13-9-3). Puck drop at the Brantford and District Civic Centre is at 7:30 p.m.

Blast pick up a split in weekend action

In Major League Hockey action on Friday night, the Brantford Blast dropped a 5-2 decision to the visiting Baltimore Clippers and on Saturday night, they were in Coldwater and defeated the Orillia/Coldwater Tundras by a score of 6-2. The Blast aren't in action again until Friday, Dec. 5 when they head to Dundas to face the Real McCoys. They don't return home until Friday, Dec, 12 when they face the Whitby Dunlops.

Hawks get back in the win column

In Southern Ontario Junior Hockey League action on Sunday night, the Hagersville Hawks hosted their rivals from St. George and picked up a 5-4 win. It was the first time they have beat the Dukes in five games this season. James Kerst made 40 saves to get the win. Allen Doroszkiew had two goals and an assist and Jesse Sommers had a goal and two assists to lead the way. Brock McEachern and Mike Hicks had a goal each and Derek Medeiros had a single assist. The Hawks (7-11-0) are in action again this Saturday night when they host Port Dover (6-7-4) at 7:30 p.m. After that, they head to Burford (2-13-5) on Sunday night.

Golden Eagles dominate Kitchener

Chris Dunham had a goal and two assists to lead the Brantford Golden Eagles to a 6-1 win over the Ktichener Dutchmen on Wednesday night at the Brantford and District Civic Centre. It was the team's eighth-straight victory and it increased their lead atop the Midwestern Conference to nine points. Daniel Savelli made 38 saves to pick up the win. Other point-getters for the Golden Eagles were Mike McKinley and Mark Madarasz, who both had a goal and an assist. Luke Van Moerkerke, Jordan Ogilvie, and Luc Boissonneault all had two assists each. Matt Garbowsky, Alex Szczechura, and Mike Mazurek had a goal each. Sam Millgan and Brock Smith had an assist each. The Golden Eagles (21-3-2) are in action again on Friday night when they travel to Stratford (13-8-1) to battle the Cullitons. After that, they head to Cambridge on Saturday night.

The Brantford Golden Eagles of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League added another win to their impressive season on Saturday night at the Brantford and District Civic Centre. They were taking on the Thorold Blackhawks from the Golden Horseshoe Conference and won 5-2. Daniel Savelli made 36 saves to get the win. Brock Smith led the way with three goals (all in the first period). Matt Garbowsky had two goals and Sam Milligan and Alex Szczechura both had two assists apiece. Mike McKinley, John Szasz, Luke Van Moerkerke, TJ Fergus, Jordan Ogilvie, and Luc Boissonneault all had an assist each. In Major League Hockey action this past Friday night, the Brantford Blast defeated the Dundas Real McCoys by a score of 9-2 at the Brantford and District Civic Centre. Chris Houle made 37 saves to pick up the win. Ryan Healy (2G, 2A), Jason Skinner (1G, 3A), and Dan Veenema (1G, 3A) all had four-point games to lead the way. Brad Woods had a goal and two assists. Matt Mezenberg had a goal and an assist and Jeff Brown had two assists. Aaron Brand, Terry Lammens, and Jordan Skinner all had a goal each and Tyrone Garner had a single assist. Golden Eagles crush Elmira

You can now make it six wins in a row for the Brantford Golden Eagles of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. On Thursday night at the Brantford and District Civic Centre, the Golden Eagles defeated the Elmira Sugar Kings by a score of 6-1. Daniel Savelli made 47 saves to pick up the win. In 13 games this season, the Burlington native has a record of 11-0-0-0 and a goals against average of 2.79. He also has a .908 save percentage. Alex Szczechura had another strong game as he scored three goals and picked up two assists. He now has 24 goals and 43 assists and that has him in first in league scoring by a landslide. He has already matched his point total from last season. Matt Garbowsky had a goal and two assists. Chris Dunham chipped in with two assists. Mike McKinley and Jordan Ogilvie had a goal each. Justin Biancucci, John Szasz, Luke Van Moerkerke, Justin Prittie, Brock Smith, and Luc Boissonneault all had single assists. Matt Hill, Mark Taylor, and Matt Mascarin all received game misconducts for fighting in the second period. Brent Freeman, Kyle McNeil, and Jeff Zippel were the ones ejected for Elmira. Golden Eagles down Guelph

The Brantford Golden Eagles of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League won yet another game this past weekend. On Saturday night in Guelph, they came away with a 7-3 win. Daniel Savelli made 16 saves to get the win and remain undefeated. Blake Sinclair made 21 saves to take the loss. Alex Szczechura led the way with two goals and two assists. Matt Garbowsky had two goals and an assist and Chris Dunham had three assists. Jordan Ogilvie had a goal and an assist and Mike McKinley had two assists. John Szasz and Luc Boissonneault had single goals and Matt Mascarin had a single assist. In Major League Hockey action on the weekend, the Brantford Blast travelled to Dundas on Friday night and came away with a 6-5 win over the Real McCoys. Chris Houle made 34 saves to pick up the win. Mike Minard made 20 saves to take the loss. Aaron Brand led the way with a goal and two assists. Jeff Brown scored two goals and Jordan Skinner and Andrew Taylor both had a goal and an assist each. Jason Skinner and Matt Mezenberg both had two assists each. Dan Veenema had a single goal and Brad Woods had a single assist. Justin Davis and Frank Grandits both had two goals each in the losing effort. On Saturday night in Norwood, the Blast were bitten 3-1 by the Vipers. Kevin Rainey made 21 saves to get the victory. The Hagersville Hawks of the Southern Ontario Junior Hockey League have had an up-and-down year so far. Consistency seems to be the problem. This past Saturday night in St. George, the Hawks were defeated by the Dukes 5-3. Josh Speelziek made 26 saves to pick up the win. James Kerst made 31 saves to take the loss. Brooks Manfini led the way for St. George with two goals and an assist. Bob Neilson, David Watson, and Sean Malone scored for the Hawks. On Sunday afternoon in Port Dover, the Hawks beat the Sailors by a score of 4-1. Kerst made 35 saves to pick up the victory. Allen Doroszkiew, Rick Schipper, Gardener, and David Medeiros scored for the Hawks. Next action for the Hawks (6-9-0) is this Friday night as they head to Delhi (12-1-0) to take on the Travellers. Golden Eagles increase their first place lead

Despite dropping two-straight games to the Waterloo Siskins last weekend, the Brantford Golden Eagles responded with a 5-2 over the pesky Waterloo squad on Thursday night at the Brantford and District Civic Centre. Daniel Savelli made 29 saves to pick up his ninth win of the season. He has yet to lose this season. Colin Breen made 28 saves to take the loss. There was no scoring in the first period. The Golden Eagles led 2-1 after the second period and added three more goals in the third period compared to one by Waterloo. Chris Dunham led the way with a goal and three assists. Matt Garbowsky and Matt Madarasz both had a goal and an assist each. Luke Van Moerkerke, who was making his Golden Eagles' debut arrived via the OHL's Brampton Battalion had two assists. Justin Biancucci and Alex Szczechura both had a goal each and Mike McKinley, Justin Brittie, and Jordan Ogilvie all had an assist each. The Golden Eagles now have 36 points which gives them some breathing space as they are now five points up on second place Waterloo. Hawks get revenge against Burford

The Hagersville Hawks of the Southern Ontario Junior Hockey League were 4-1 winners over the Burford Bulldogs on Wednesday night at the Hagersville Memorial Arena. The Bulldogs beat the Hawks 3-1 this past Saturday night in Burford. Rob Porter made 27 saves to get the win. Scoring for the Hawks was Sean Malone with a pair and Braden Sullivan and Kyle Gardener with a goal each. After going into a mini-slump last weekend, the Brantford Golden Eagles responded with a road win last Tuesday night in Kitchener. This past Friday night in Listowel, the Golden Eagles took the wind out of the Cyclones as they won 7-3. Daniel Savelli made 30 saves to pick up the win. Josh Leis took the loss making 26 saves. Matt Hill had two goals and an assist and Matt Garbowsky had a goal and two assists to lead the way. Chris Dunham had three assists. Luc Boissonneault had two goals and Alex Szczechura and Mark Madarasz both had a goal and assist each. Justin Prittie had a single assist. On Saturday night at home, the Golden Eagles took down the Owen Sound Greys by a score of 5-3. Thomas Shelley made 29 saves to get the win. Talon D'Orazio took the loss making 50 saves. The end result was not pretty as the Travellers blanked the Hawks 4-0. Ian Bentley made 34 saves to record the shutout. Rob Porter made 29 saves to take the loss. Mark Bessagato led the way with a goal and two assists. On Saturday night in Burford, the Hawks had a bit of offence but it wasn't enough as they were defeated by the Bulldogs 3-1. Mitchell Bleskie made 32 saves to get the win. James Kerst took the loss making 23 saves. Justin Zylstra and Dallas Boakes both had a goal and assist to lead the way. Golden Eagles bounce back


After dropping two games to the Waterloo Siskins on the weekend, the Brantford Golden Eagles hit the road and rebounded to defeat the Kitchener Dutchmen by a score of 3-2. Daniel Savelli made 25 saves to pick up the win. Jordan Bowes took the loss making 32 saves. Matt Garbowsky led the way with a goal and an assist. Mike McKinley and Chris Dunham both had a goal each. McKinley’s goal happened to be the game winner with 2:09 left to play in the third period. Alex Szczechura and Luc Boissonneault both had an assist each. Golden Eagles drop two on the weekend


The Brantford Golden Eagles saw a different Waterloo Siskins team twice on the weekend. Back on opening night (Sept. 11), the Golden Eagles had little trouble beating Waterloo but couldn’t find a way to win against them this time around. On Sunday night in Waterloo, the visiting Golden Eagles lost 7-4. Colin Breen made 34 saves to pick up the win. Thomas Shelley took the loss. Shelley started the game and allowed five goals on 12 shots but was pulled in favour of Daniel Savelli, who finished the game allowing two goals on 16 shots. Matt Reid had three goals and Steve Collins had a goal and two assists to lead the way for the home side. Justin Prittie had a goal and two assists in the losing effort. Mike McKinley, Alex Szczechura, and Will Metske had the other goals. At the Brantford and District Civic Centre on Saturday night, the Golden Eagles were edged 5-4 in overtime. Breen made 47 saves to pick up the win. Shelley took the loss making 11 saves. Savelli started in net and made 21 saves on 24 shots before being replaced in the third period. Tanner Pearson had three assists for the visitors and Mark Mantynen had two goals. Szczechura had a goal and two assists in the losing effort. Dunham had a goal and an assist and TJ Fergus and Jordan Ogilvie both had two assists. Garbowsky and Boissonneault both had a goal each and Metske had a single assist. Next action for the Golden Eagles is tomorrow night as they travel to Kitchener to battle the Dutchmen.


Blast win second straight


The Brantford Blast had success in their only game on the weekend as they were in Norwood and beat the Vipers by a score of 4-1. Chris Houle made 26 saves to pick up the win. Simon LaBelle took the loss making 20 saves. Point getters for the Blast were Ryan Healy (3A), Brad Woods (2G), Jason Skinner (1G), Dan Veenema (1G), John Kozoriz (1A), Jeremy Bloomfield (1A), Andrew Taylor (1A), and Jeff Brown (1A). Next action for the Blast is this Friday night at 8 p.m. as they host the Orillia/Coldwater Tundras. After that, they travel to Whitby on Saturday night to battle the Dunlops.


Hawks edged at home


The Hagersville Hawks of the Southern Ontario Junior Hockey League had only one game on the weekend and came up short, losing 4-3 to the Tavistock Braves at the Hagersville Memorial Arena on Saturday night. Billy Whaling made 29 saves to pick up the win. Rob Porter took the loss making 31 saves. Mike Brilhante had two goals and Devin Berg had a goal and an assist to lead the way for the visitors. Jesse Sault had a goal and two assists. Brad Williams had a goal and an assist. David Watson had a goal and Jim Greenfield and Sean Malone both had an assist each. The high-flying Brantford Golden Eagles were just too much for the Stratford Cullitons as they won 8-4 in front of a yet another small crowd at the Brantford and District Civic Centre on Thursday night. In Major League Hockey action last Friday night at the Brantford and District Civic Centre, the Brantford Blast lost their second game in a row as they were defeated by the Dundas Real McCoys 6-2. Brett Leggat made 23 saves to pick up the win. Chris Houle made 30 saves to take the loss. Mark Jooris led the way for the visitors with a goal and three assists and Mike Kennedy had two goals and an assist. Matt Mezenberg and Dav Veenema scored for the Blast. Aaron Brand, Dan Pitre, and Ryan Healy all had an assist each. The Blast dropped their opener on October 3 to Norwood by a score of 3-1. Golden Eagles win big over Guelph

Chalk up another win for the Brantford Golden Eagles as they defeated the Guelph Dominators by a score of 9-4 on Thursday night at the Brantford and District Civic Centre. Thomas Shelley made 21 saves to pick up the win. Blake Sinclair took the loss making 21 saves. Tyler Feltstead played the third period and allowed two goals on seven shots. Chris Dunham led the offence with three goals and three assists. Alex Szczechura had five assists and Matt Garbowsky had two goals and two assists. Mike McKinley, Brock Smith, and Matt Hill all had a goal and an assist. Sam Milligan, Justin Biancucci, Will Metske, Luc Boissonneault, and Dave Mazurek all had an assist each. Nick Borg had a goal and an assist and Tyson Theather had two assists in the losing cause. The Golden Eagles sit in first place in the nine-team Midwestern Conference with 17 points. Golden Eagles earn a split in weekend action

The Brantford Golden Eagles of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League are now in a first-place tie with the Waterloo Siskins in the Midwestern Conference after splitting their two weekend games. On Friday night in Strathroy, the Golden Eagles lost by a score of 5-3 to the Rockets. Ben Thomas made 20 saves to pick up the win. Thomas Shelley took the loss making 25 saves. Patrick Easter led all point-getters with three assists for Strathroy and Walter Easter had two goals. Alex Szczechura had a goal and an assist and Matt Garbowsky had two assists for the Golden Eagles. Will Metske and Luc Boissonneault both had a goal each and Chris Dunham had an assist. On Sunday night in Owen Sound, the Golden Eagles doubled up the Greys 8-4. Daniel Savelli made 21 saves to get the victory. Talon D'Orazio took the loss making 36 saves. Mark Madarasz had a goal and two assists and Szczechura had three assists to lead the way for the Golden Eagles. Dunham had two goals and Mike McKinley, Garbowsky, and Ohsweken's Brock Smith all had a goal and an assist. Caledonia's Matt Hill had two assists. Boissonneault and Metzke both had a goal each and Justin Biancucci and Chris Marco both had an assist each. Szczechura was named September's OHA Player of the Month in the Midwestern Conference. John Szasz, who was suspended four games for his actions in the Golden Eagles September 26 game against Stratford will be eligible to play in the team's next game after one of the games was bought back by the team. Hawks lose in St. George

The Hagersville Hawks of the Southern Ontario Junior Hockey League were in St. George on Saturday night and lost 6-2. Josh Speelziek made 30 saves to pick up the win. Rob Porter took the loss making 22 saves. James Kerst also seen some action and he made 11 saves on 12 shots. Matt Orbell had a goal and an assist and Jason Reis had two assists to lead the home side. Darren Drehmer and Sean Malone had a goal each for the Hawks. Charles Armstrong, David Watson, Allen Doroszkiew, and Brad Williams all had an assist each. Golden Eagles get back to their winning ways

The Brantford Golden Eagles picked up two on the weekend. On Friday night, they were in Stratford and came away with a 5-2 win over the Cullitons. Thomas Shelley made 26 saves to get the win. Evan Groenestege took the loss, making 40 saves. Alex Szczechura led the offence with a goal and three assists. Chris Dunham and Matt Garbowsky both had a goal and two assists. Justin Biancucci and Dave Mazurek had single goals and Mike McKinley and Will Metzke both had single assists. On Sunday night in Elmira, the Golden Eagles defeated the Sugar Kings 6-2. Daniel Savelli made 27 saves to pick up the win. Connor Lyons took the loss, making 35 saves. Alex Szczechura once again led the offence with a goal and three assists. Matt Garbowsky had a goal and two assists. Mike McKinley had a goal and an assist and Jordan Ogilvie had two assists. Chris Dunham, Sam Milligan, and Mark Madarasz all had a goal each. John Szasz was given a four-game suspension by the league for his actions in the game and he will be eligible to return after the Golden Eagles October 9 home game against Guelph unless the team decides to buy back a game or two. Hawks now 2-1

The Hagersville Hawks were winners of both their games this weekend. On Saturday night at the Hagersville Memorial Arena, they blanked the Wellesley Applejacks 4-0. Sean Malone led the way with three goals and Jesse Sommers had a single marker. Rob Porter made 40 saves to record the shutout. Kent Stoltz took the loss, making 33 saves. On Sunday night in Burford, the Hawks edged the Bulldogs by a score of 4-3 in a shootout. Brad Williams, Jesse Sommers, and Rick Schipper had the goals for the Hawks. Sean Malone scored the only goal in the shootout to give the Hakws the victory. Rob Porter picked up the win, making 29 saves. Mitchell Bleskie took the loss, making 35 saves. Golden Eagles suffer their first defeat

It was bound to happen sooner or later. The Brantford Golden Eagles suffered their first loss of season on Thursday night at the Brantford and District Civic Centre as the Cambridge Winter Hawks came to town and left with a 5-4 shootout win. Greg Virgo had two goals and an assist to lead Cambridge's offence. Other goals were scored by Matt Amadio and Tanner Rutland. Alex Szczechura had two goals in the loss and Mike McKinley and Chris Dunham both had two assists. Justin Biancucci had a goal and an assist. Ohsweken's Brock Smith had a single goal and Matt Garbowsky had a single assist. Josh Woolley, Cody Hall, and Amadio scored in the shootout for Cambridge and Chris Dunham and Szczechura scored for the Golden Eagles. Dave Clement made 35 saves to pick up the win. Golden Eagles remain perfect

It wasn't a pretty win but they will take it. The Brantford Golden Eagles erased a 4-0 deficit to come back and defeat the Elmira Sugar Kings 8-7 in a shootout on Saturday night at the Brantford and District Civic Centre. Thomas Shelley picked up his second win, making 27 saves. Brandon Wysman took the loss, making 26 saves. Chris Dunham led the way with a goal and four assists. Mike McKinley had three assists and Alex Szczechura and Luc Boissonneault both had a goal and an assist. Jordan Ogilvie had two assists. Justin Biancucci, Matt Garbowsky, Dave Mazurek, and Mark Madarasz all had a goal each. Josh Ranalli was the first shooter for Elmira and he was stopped by Shelley.McKinley shot first for the Golden Eagles and he scored. The next shooter was Elmira's Kyle Blaney and he scored. Next up was Garbowsky and he was stopped by Wysman. Tyler Kuntz then shot for Elmira and he was stopped by Shelley. The third shooter for the Golden Eagles was Szczechura and he scored to give the Golden Eagles to their third win of the season and remain perfect. Ohsweken's Brock Smith and Caledonia's Matt Hill are both still looking for their first points as Golden Eagles. Hawks drop opener

Golden Eagles now 2-0

The Brantford Golden Eagles are off to a flying start in their 2008-2009 Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League season as they won their second game of the season on Saturday night. They travelled to Guelph to take on the Dominators and came away with a 3-0 victory. Thomas Shelley recorded the shutout making 24 saves and Brandon Gorecki took the loss making 24 saves. The Golden Eagles got all three goals in the first period as John Szasz, who made his debut after playing for the Hamilton Junior A Red Wings opened the scoring at 1:04. Just 26 seconds later, captain Mike McKinley beat Gorecki to make it 2-0 for the Golden Eagles. Will Metske and Szasz assisted on the goal. At 10:47, Chris Dunham scored to give the Golden Eagles a 3-0 lead. Alex Szczechura assisted on the goal. The Golden Eagles were outshot 11-8 in the first period but then outshot the home side 10-5 in the second period and 9-8 in the third period. Ohsweken's Brock Smith and Caledonia's Matt Hill are both still looking for their first points as Golden Eagles. Golden Eagles win opener

The Brantford Golden Eagles impressed the more than 600 fans that showed up at the Brantford and District Civic Centre on Thursday night as they doubled up the Waterloo Siskins by a score of 6-3. Daniel Savelli made 26 saves to pick up the win for the Golden Eagles, who were sporting their new jerseys. Colin Breen took the loss making 31 saves. Chris Dunham opened the scoring just 3:39 after the opening faceoff making it 1-0 for the home side. Waterloo outshot the Golden Eagles 10-8 in the first period. Matt Garbowsky had two goals in the second period and Alex Szczechura added one to give the Golden Eagles a 4-0 lead after two periods of play. The home side outshot the visitors 13-8 in the second period. Luc Boissonneault made it 5-0 for the Golden Eagles at 7:47 in the third period. Savelli's bid for a shutout came to an end at 11:38 when Tanner Pearson scored to get the visitors on the board. Golden Eagles' captain Mike McKinley scored at 16:17 to give his team a five-goal lead once again. Waterloo added two late goals but that was as close as they would get as they dropped their second-straight game as they just could not handle the Golden Eagles' powerful offence. Garbowsky finished with an impressive six points (2G, 4A) and Szczechura ended the game with a three-point night (1G, 2A). Ohsweken's Brock Smith and Caledonia's Matt Hill failed to register a point but both had several good scoring chances. Four Arrows selected in 2008 NLL Entry Draft

The Six Nations Arrows were well represented yesterday at the 2008 NLL Entry Draft held in Boston. The Buffalo Bandits selected Eryn Jones as their first pick in third round, 35th overall and then in the fourth round, 49th overall, they selected Tory Gardner. Both will add toughness to the Bandits as well as strong defensive skills. The Rochester Knighthawks picked Logan Kane in the fifth round, 54th overall and then they selected Mitch Nanticoke in the sixth round, 67th overall. Kane will bring some grit and good size to the Knighthawks blueline and Nanticoke will bring some offence. Both played their last game in junior lacrosse on August 16 when the Arrows were defeated in the Ontario Jr. A final by the Orangeville Northmen in five games.

Aces win their fourth-straight Legends Cup

The Ohsweken Aces won the 7th annual Legends Cup held this past weekend at the Gaylord Powless Arena by defeating the Rez Dogz 8-6 in the championship game. Goalie Ken “Monster” Montour was named game MVP for the Aces and Jake Henhawk was named game MVP for the Rez Dogz. Montour also won the Cap Bomberry Trophy as Tournament MVP. Craig Point had three assists to lead the Aces offence. Dean Hill and Roger Vyse both scored two goals each. Marty Hill, Stu Hill, and Cody Johnson all had a goal and an assist each. Cory Bomberry had a single goal and Rayce Vyse and Kyle Point both had an assist each. Cody Jacobs had three goals and an assist to lead the Rez Dogz in scoring. Jason Henhawk had a goal and two assists. Cecil Hill had a goal and an assist and Shawn Garlow and Eli Hill both had two assists each. Vern Hill had a single goal. The Aces got to the championship game after defeating the Confederacy Warriors 15-7. The Rez Dogz got to the finals by defeating the Fireballs 11-8 and they finished with a record of 4-2 as the Aces also beat them in the round robin. The Fireballs finished with a record of 2-3. The Confederacy Warriors ended up with a 1-4 record and the Rez Runners ended up with an 0-5 record. Aces’ Rayce Vyse won the Craig Squire Memorial Trophy as the Best Defensive Player. Fireballa’ Ken Sandy won the Ray “Wheels” Hill Trophy for Outstanding Goalie. Rez Dogz’ Jim Henhawk won the Ken Squire Memorial Trophy as the Best Centerman and Aces’ Cory Bomberry won the Josh Montour Memorial Trophy as the Most Sportsmanlike Player.

Legends Cup goes this weekend

The 7th annual Legends Cup takes place this weekend at the Gaylord Powless Arena. The Aces, the Fireballs, the Rez Dogz, the Rez Runners, and the Confederacy Warriors are the five teams competing. There will be a total payout of $8000. Action gets underway tonight at 7 p.m. as the Rez Dogz take on the Aces and at 9 p.m., the Fireballs battle the Rez Runners. Rebels repeat as Founders Cup champions

The Six Nations Rebels won their second-straight Founders Cup as the Canadian Jr. B Lacrosse champions for 2008 after edging the host Guelph Regals by a score of 8-7 at the Sleeman Centre last night. The Rebels have now won the Founders Cup three times in their 13-year franchise history. A 10-3 win over the Port Coquitlam Saints in the semi-finals on Saturday afternoon got the Rebels to the championship game. Also, in their final round robin game on Friday, they cruised past the Calgary Chill by a score of 17-4. Guelph opened the scoring but the Rebels ended up leading 4-2 after the first period. They led 6-5 after the second period and both teams scored two goals in the third period. Randy Johnson made 28 saves to get the win. Ricky McGarr started in net for Guelph but with 1:25 left in the second period, he was called for having cut gloves. He was assessed a two-minor for illegal equipment and a 10-minute game misconduct. His replacement, Jeremy Snider ended up taking the loss making 14 saves. At 19:25 in the third period, Jeremy Johns was called for having an illegal stick and he was assessed a two-minute minor for illegal equipment and a 10-minute game misconduct. The Rebels were led by game MVP Jeremy Johns with a hat-trick. Captain Stu Hill (1G, 1A), Jason Johns (1G, 1A), Torrey VanEvery (1G, 1A) and Alex Kedoh Hill (2A) all had two points apiece. Sting win their final game at Presidents' Cup

The Six Nations Sting season came to an end yesterday but they went out on a high note as they won their final game of the 2008 Presidents' Cup in Sherwood Park, Alberta by a score of 6-5 over the Airdrie Knights. The Sting needed to win two of their three games to advance to the semi-finals. The score was tied at two after the opening period. Airdrie led 5-3 after the second period but the Sting scored three goals in the third period and kept Airdrie off the scoresheet. Jake Henhawk picked up the win making 21 saves. Geoff Rainsford took the loss making 32 saves. Mike Skye led the way for the Sting with a goal and two assists. Last year, the Sting went 1-3 at the 2007 Presidents' Cup in Owen Sound. The Rebels led 9-1 after the opening period and 14-2 after the second period. In the third period, the Rebels added five more goals to add to the one-sided affair. Sting fall to 0-2 at Presidents' Cup

The Six Nations Sting were edged 7-6 by the Tri-City Bandits in their second game of the 2008 Presidents Cup in Sherwood Park, Alberta last night. The Sting led 3-1 after the opening period and 4-2 after the second period, but only managed to score twice in the third period and they gave up five goals to Tri-City. Jake Henhawk took the loss making 48 saves. Chad Miller picked up the win for Tri-City making 53 saves. Sting lose opener at Presidents' Cup

The Can/Am champion Six Nations Sting opened the 2008 Presidents' Cup in Sherwood Park, Alberta last night with a 7-5 loss to the Sherwood Park Outlaws. The Sting trailed 1-0 after the opening period but fought back to lead 5-3 after the second period. In the third period, Sherwood Park scored four times and the Sting failed to score any goals. Rebels crowned Ontario champs once again
The Six Nations Rebels defeated the Halton Hills Bulldogs in game four by a score of 8-6 in Georgetown on Friday night to win the best-of-five series 3-1. This is the second-straight year that the Rebels have won the J.A. McDonald Trophy as Ontario Jr. B champions. Last season, they defeated the Clarington Green Gaels to win the title. It was a much cleaner game then the game three brawl as the two teams combined for only one minor penalty each. Randy Johnson made 29 saves to get the win. Marty Hill (2G, 1A), Mike Miller (1G, 2A), and Cody Johnson (3A) had three points each to lead the offence. Stu Hill (2G), Jeremy Johns (2G), and Kraig Maracle (2A) all had two points each. The Rebels now advance to the Canadian National Jr. B Lacrosse Championships (Founders Cup) in Guelph. Their first game is tomorrow against the Longueil Patriotes at the Sleeman Centre at 5 p.m.
NOTE: The Rebels’ Chancy Johnson and the Bulldogs’ Nic Matwijszyn both sat out the game as they received indefinite suspensions stemming from the game three brawl in Six Nations that happened at the end of the game. The Rebels’ Cody Johnson and James Mt. Pleasant were given one-game suspensions but they were bought back meaning they could play. The Bulldogs’ Kody Lyons and Justin Reid were also given one-game suspensions and they were also bought back. The Bulldogs received a $500 fine for not holding their players at the bench when a fight was in progress and the Rebels received a $2000 fine for having fans involved on the floor.

Arrows season comes to an end
The Six Nations Arrows could not extend their season on Saturday night as they dropped game five to the Orangeville Northmen by a score of 9-6 to win the series 4-1 and win the 2008 Ontario Jr. A Championship (Iroquois Trophy). The Arrows streak for five consecutive Ontario championships and five-straight Minto Cup appearances came to an end. Orangeville’s Andrew Suitor was named the MVP of the playoffs and he received the Dean McLeod Award. Mitch Nanticoke had three goals to lead the offence in the loss. Ben Reaume had a goal and an assist and Corbyn Tao and Jacob Kicknosway-Loucks both had two assists. Holden Vyse and Pierce Abrams had a goal each and Cody Jamieson, Mike McNamara, and Randy Johnson all had an assist each. Orangeville now moves on to the 2008 Minto Cup in Calgary that runs from August 22 to August 30.
NOTE: The loss ended many junior careers including Cody Jamieson’s. He became the Arrows all-time leading scorer this past season. He also won the league scoring crown, he was voted the league MVP, he was named the league’s most outstanding player, and he was named the 2008 winner of the Tom Longboat Award as the Aboriginal Male Athlete of the Year in Canada.

Arrows edged in game four at home

The Six Nations Arrows now find themselves down 3-1 in their best-of-seven Ontario Jr. A Final series after losing 9-8 at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena last night. The Arrows came out flat in the first period as they gave up the first four goals before finally scoring but trailed 5-1 after the opening period. In the second period, the Arrows scored twice but Orangeville had one to make it 6-3 for the visiting team heading into the third period. The Arrows played an outstanding third period. After giving up the first goal, the Arrows scored five in a row to lead 8-7 with 30 seconds remaining but Orangeville scored a controversial goal as time expired in the period. After a discussion between the referees, they called it a goal sending the game into overtime. In the extra fame, Orangeville scored just 33 seconds in and held on for the victory. Angus Goodleaf started the game but was pulled in favour of Cody "Ode" VanEvery who played briefly before Goodleaf returned to the net and fared better, but still took the loss. Cody Jamieson had three goals and two assists to lead the offence. Holden Vyse had four assists. Randy Staats had a goal and an assist and Corbyn Tao had two assists. Chris Courtney, Tyler Hill, Mike McNamara, and Pierce Abrams all had a goal each and Ben Salo, Logan Kane, Eli Longboat. Mitch Nanticoke, Tom Guadagnolo, and Jacob Kicknosway-Loucks all had an assist each. The Six Nations Arrows played another strong game last night in Orangeville and this time they came away with an 9-7 win. Orangeville leads the best-of-seven Ontario Jr. A Final series 2-1. Angus Goodleaf was strong between the pipes to pick up the win. Cody Jamieson led the way with three goals and an assist. Randy Staats had a goal and two assists. Ben Reaume and Corbyn Tao both had a goal and an assist and Holden Vyse and Goodleaf both had two assists. Tyler Hill, Mitch Nanticoke, and Pierce Abrams all had a goal each and Josh Eldridge had a single assist. Rebels edged in game three

The Six Nations Rebels could not finish off the Halton Hills Bulldogs last night at the Gaylord Powless Arena as the visiting team left with a 5-4 victory. A crowd of 1, 020 took in the game that ended with a bench-clearing brawl that seen 125 minutes in penalties given out at the conclusion of the game. The Rebels lead the best-of-five Ontario Jr. B Final series 2-1. Michael Cregan made 50 saves to pick up the win for Halton Hills and Randy Johnson made 41 saves to take the loss. Pat Saunders led the way for Halton Hills with two goals and an assist. Mike Burke had a goal and an assist and Chad Cummings had two assists. Single points were by Nic Grasby (1G), Kody Lyons (1G), Evan Whillans (1A), Kyle Davis (1A), and Mike Brown (1A). Jeremy Johns and Darryl Hill had two assists each for the Rebels. The Six Nations Arrows could not hold onto a two-goal lead in the third period last night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena as they lost game two by a score of 8-7. It was a much better effort then game one where the Arrows lost 12-4. Angus Goodleaf made 51 saves to take the loss. Randy Staats led the offence with two goals and two assists. Cody Jamieson had two goals and an assist and Corbyn Tao had three assists. Mitch Nanticoke scored two goals and Ben Reaume had a goal and an assist. Ben Salo and Goodleaf each had an assist. Game three goes tomorrow night at the Tony Rose Arena in Orangeville at 8 p.m. There will be a couple of fan buses making the trip. Game four is back at the ILA on Thursday night at 8 p.m.

Weekend lacrosse roundup

The Six Nations Sting were crowned Can/Am champions for the second-straight year on Saturday afternoon in Onondaga as they beat the Redhawks 8-6. The night before at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena, the Sting won 12-6. They will now be heading to the 2008 Presidents Cup in Sherwood Park, Alberta which begins on Monday, August 18 and runs to Saturday, August 23. The Six Nations Rebels lead their best-of-five Ontario final series 2-0 against the Halton Hills Bulldogs. Last night in Georgetown, they won 10-2 and on Friday night at the Gaylord Powless Arena, they won 12-3. They can wrap up the series and win their second-straight Ontario title and advance to the 2008 Founders Cup in Guelph on Wednesday night at the GPA at 8 p.m.

The Six Nations Arrows were defeated 12-4 by the well-rested Orangeville Northmen in game one of their best-of-seven Ontario final series last night in Orangeville. Game two goes tonight at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena at 8 p.m.

The Team Iroquois Bantam team lost 8-6 to Team Ontario in the 'A' Gold Medal Game in the 2008 Bantam Lacrosse Nationals in Whitby on Saturday night. In the afternoon, the Team Iroquois Peewee team defeated Team Alberta 7-2 in the 'A' Bronze Medal Game in the 2008 Peewee Lacrosse National in Whitby. Kahnawake's Brine Rice led all 180 Peewee National players with 36 points (21G, 15A).

North American Indigenous Games another success for Ontario

The Cowichan 2008 North American Indigenous Games wrapped up yesterday and Team Ontario came second overall in the medal standings. They won 48 gold medals, 54 silver medals, and 41 bronze medals for a total of 143 medals. In total, there were 22 teams competing. Team Saskatchewan came in first winning 94 gold medals, 81 silver medals, and 68 bronze medals for a total of 243 medals. The games ran from August 3-10.

Team Iroquois looking to win two medals this weekend

The Iroquois Bantam team is the only undefeated team (7-0) at the Nationals in Whitby. They took care of Team Manitoba by a score of 15-1 and edged Team British Columbia 6-5 yesterday to advance to the 'A' Gold Medal Game tomorrow night against Team Ontario at the Iroquois Park Sports Centre at 8:05 p.m.

The Iroquois Peewee team is 6-3 at the Nationals in Whitby. On Wednesday evening, they cruised past Team Alberta by a score of 14-4. Yesterday, they crushed Team Saskatchewan by a score of 17-1 and beat Team Nova Scotia by a score of 17-2. In the semi-finals this morning, they lost to Team Ontario by a score of 11-3. They will now play in the 'A' Bronze Medal Game tomorrow afternoon against Team Alberta at the Iroquois Park Sports Centre at 1:30 p.m.

Arrows take game seven to advance to the finals

No one figured the Six Nations Arrows would come back from trailing 3-1 in their best-of-seven semi-final series against the St. Catharines Athletics. But they managed to put together three solid games to get the wins to extend their season. Last night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena, the Arrows defeated St. Catharines 6-2 to advance to the finals. "It starts with our defence and goaltending," said Arrows' head coach Regy Thorpe. "We let up two in the first but we never let them (St. Catharines) get a step for the rest of the way." Angus Goodleaf turned in another good performance as he made 33 saves to get the win. Goodleaf played for the Burnaby Lakers last season and his team only had to win seven games to make it to the Minto Cup, but in Ontario you have to win 12 games to make it to the National Jr. A Championship. "It's a lot harder here," said Goodleaf. "The weather is hotter here so that makes it tougher." Mitch Nanticoke had three goals, Randy Staats had a goal and two assists, and Corbyn Tao had three assists to lead the offence. Cody Jamieson had two goals and Logan Kane and Jacob Kicknosway-Loucks both had two assists. Tyler Hill had a single assist.

The Arrows will now be taking on the Orangeville Northmen in the best-of-seven Ontario Jr. A Final hoping for their fifth-straight provincial title. Orangeville won both matchups this season against the Arrows. Back on June 6, Orangeville defeated the Arrows at the ILA by a score of 8-4 and back on June 28 in Orangeville, the Northmen won 14-6. Last season in the finals, the Arrows won the series 4-2 over Orangeville en route to winning the Minto Cup. This year Calgary hosts the Minto Cup from August 22-31. Arrows force game seven

It was a thrilling 13-12 overtime win for the Six Nations Arrows last night at the hot and humid Bill Burgoyne Arena in St. Catharines in game six of the best-of-seven semi-final series. The Arrows were down 3-2 coming into the game and came out flying to lead 5-3 after the opening period. St. Catharines had a big second period to lead 8-7 heading into the third period where the Arrows were down 11-10 and managed to tie the game with 2:38 to play to send the game into overtime. St. Catharines struck first but then the Arrows tied it at 6:16 and then rookie Randy Staats scored the eventual winner at 6:57. Mitch Nanticoke had two goals and four assists to lead the offence. Captain Cody Jamieson finished with four goals and an assist and Pierce Abrams had a goal and four assists. Staats ended the game with three goals and an assist. Corbyn Tao had three assists and Ben Reaume and Jacob Kicknosway-Loucks both had two assists. Logan Kane, Eli Longboat, and Brock Smith all had a goal each and Holden Vyse had a single assist. Team Iroquois continuing to impress at Nationals

The Bantam Team Iroquois minor lacrosse team remains undefeated at the 2008 Bantam Lacrosse Championship of Canada in Whitby after defeating Team Ontario last night by a score of 7-4 and won their fifth game over Team Quebec this morning by a score of 18-1. The Bantam's beat Team Alberta 3-2 in their opening game and then defeated cruised past Team Saskatchewan 16-2 in their second game. They take on Team Manitoba tomorrow morning at 11:30 a.m. and then take on Team British Columbia tomorrow night at 8 p.m. If they win those two games then they will advance right to the 'A' Gold Medal Game on Saturday night at 8:05 p.m.

The Peewee Team Iroquois minor lacrosse team now has a record of 3-2 after defeating Team Quebec 20-2 this morning, Last night against Team Ontario, they lost 11-3. The Peewee's cruised past Team Manitoba 17-1 in their opening game and then were defeated 6-2 by Team British Columbia in their second game and in their third game, they won 11-3 over Team New Brunswick. They take on Team Alberta today at 5 p.m. and then face Team Nova Scotia tomorrow afternoon at 2:15 p.m.

Sr. A Indians drop game two

The St. Regis Indians lost game two of their best-of-seven Major Series Lacrosse semi-final series against the Peterborough Lakers last night on the road by a score of 10-7. In game one this past Sunday, they lost at home by a score of 13-10. Game three goes tomorrow night in Peterborough at 8 p.m. and game four is back in Akwesasne on Saturday night at 7 p.m. In the other semi-final series, the Brampton Excelsiors have a 2-0 series lead over the Brooklin Redmen. The Six Nations Rebels defeated the Elora Mohawks in game five by a score of 7-6 to win the best-of-five Western Conference Final last night at the Gaylord Powless Arena. The Rebels won game three at the GPA on Friday night by a score of 10-4 and then won game four in Elora on Sunday night by a score of 12-7. The Halton Hills Bulldogs are the Rebels opponents in the Ontario Jr. B Final. Game one goes this Friday night at the GPA at 8 p.m.

The Six Nations Arrows were 5-4 winners over the St. Catharines Athletics last night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in game three of their best-of-seven semi-final series and tied the series at 1-1. Game two was suspended on Wednesday night at the Bill Burgoyne Arena in St. Catharines due to a slippery floor with the Arrows trailing 8-6 with 4:51 remaining in the second period. Surprisingly, captain Cody Jamieson was held off the score sheet on Thursday night. Corbyn Tao led the way with two goals and an assist. Jacob Kicknosway-Loucks had two assists. Mitch Nanticoke, Wayne VanEvery, and Randy Staats all had a goal each and Ryan Burnham added an assist. Angus Goodleaf picked up the win making 35 saves. Game two will be replayed on Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Niagara Credit Union Arena in Virgil (Niagara-on-the-Lake). Once the game is completed, there will be a 30-minute intermission and then game four will be played. Game five heads back to the ILA on Sunday night at 7 p.m. If necessary, game six goes on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. in St. Catharines and game seven would go on Thursday night at the ILA at 8 pm.

The Six Nations will be facing elimination tomorrow night after dropping game two of their best-of-five Conference Final series against the Elora Mohawks by a score of 9-6 last night in Elora. Justin Gibson led the way for Elora with two goals and three assists. Dan Weadick picked up the win making 47 saves. Randy Johnson took the loss making 29 saves. Jesse Johnson had three assists and Stu Hill and Cody Johnson both had a goal and an assist each. Jordan Johnson, Kraig Maracle, Torrey VanEvery, and Jeremy Johns had the other goals for the Rebels. Game three goes at 8 p.m. tomorrow night at the Gaylord Powless Arena. Arrows game called in the second period
Game two of the best-of-seven semi-final series between the Six Nations Arrows and the St. Catharines Athletics, who lead the series 1-0 was called with 4:51 remaining in the second period due to unsafe playing conditions. The floor at the Bill Burgoyne Arena in St. Catharines became basically unplayable due to a slippery floor. The Athletics were up 8-6 before the game was stopped. Before the game, captain Cody Jamieson was honoured by commissioner Dean McLeod for winning the Dennis McIntosh Memorial Award for Most Valuable Player, the Bobby Allan Award as Leading Scorer, and the Jim Veltman Award as the Most Outstanding Player. Game three will be played as scheduled tonight at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena at 8 p.m. This Saturday night at the Niagara Credit Union Arena in Virgil (Niagara-on-the-Lake) at 8 p.m. the remaining time from game two will be played and a winner will be decided. St. Catharines will have possession of the ball when it resumes. Immediately following the game, there will be a 30-minute intermission and then as scheduled game four will take place in its entirety. The Six Nations Sting are heading to the Can/Am League finals after defeating the Niagara Hawks 10-7 last night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena to win the best-of-three semi-final series 2-1. The Sting will be facing the Onondaga Redhawks in the finals. The Six Nations Chiefs season came to an end on Sunday afternoon as they lost game four of their best-of-five series to the St. Regis Indians by a score of 11-9 at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena. On Saturday night at the ILA, the Chiefs lost 9-7. St. Regis now takes on Peterborough in the semi-finals. The other semi-final has Brampton taking on Brooklin.

The Six Nations Sting suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday afternoon as the Niagara Hawks beat them 12-11 in game two of their best-of-three semi-final series. The Sting won game one on Friday night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena by a score of 7-6. Game two originally was scheduled for Saturday in Niagara but the floor conditions weren’t up to par and that is why the game got moved to Sunday. The Sting were winning the game 9-4 in the second period before it got called. The third and deciding game goes tonight at the ILA at 8 p.m. The winner moves on to the Can/Am finals against Onondaga.

The Six Nations Chiefs were defeated in Akwesasne last night by a score of 12-7 to the St. Regis Indians in game two of the best-of-five quarter-final series making the series tied 1-1. Ken Montour made 51 saves to take the loss. Cory Bomberry had two goals and three assists to lead the offence. Dean Hill had three goals and an assist. Delby Powless (1G, 1A) and Craig Point (2A) had two-point games. Single points were by Clay Hill (1G), Roger Vyse (1A), Tom Montour (1A), and Gewas Schindler (1A). Game three goes this Saturday night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena at 7 p.m. Game four is tentatively scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. depending on the Can/Am Sr. B Semi-Final series between Six Nations and Niagara. If not, it would go on Monday night at the ILA at 7 p.m. If necessary, game five goes next Wednesday in Akwesasne at 8:30 p.m.

The Akwesasne Indians won game six over the Burlington Chiefs by a score of 9-4 last night in Burlington. Game seven goes Friday night at 8:30 p.m. in Akwesasne. The winner moves on to the semi-finals against Orangeville.

Arrows take care of Peterborough
The Six Nations Arrows defeated the Peterborough Lakers by a score of 15-12 in game six last night in Peterborough to win the best-of-seven quarter-final series 4-2. The Arrows led 8-1 after the opening period and led 11-7 after two periods of play. In the third period, Peterborough scored five times and the Arrows scored four times. Angus Goodleaf made 42 saves to get the win. Cody Jamieson had six goals and seven assists to lead the offence. Holden Vyse (3G, 2A) and Jacob Kicknosway-Loucks (2G, 3A) had five-point games. Randy Staats (2G, 1A) and Corbyn Tao (3A) had three-point games. Ben Reaume contributed with two assists and Tyler Hill and Goodleaf both had an assist each. The Arrows next opponent in round two (semi-finals) has yet to be determined. If Orangeville wins their series against Brampton then the Arrows will face the St. Catharines Athletics but should Brampton upset Orangeville then the Arrows will face Brampton.
Chiefs take game one
It’s a new season for the Six Nations Chiefs and they got off to the right start as they edged the St. Regis Indians 11-10 in game one of their best-of-five quarter-final series in Major Series Lacrosse playoff action last night in Akwesasne. Matt Vinc picked up the win. Cory Bomberry (2G, 2A), Dean Hill (1G, 3A), and Cody Jacobs (1G, 3A) all had four-point games to lead the way. Delby Powless (2G, 1A), Roger Vyse (2G, 1A), and Gewas Schindler (3A) all had three-points each. Craig Point (2G), Ben Powless (1G, 1A), and Tom Montour (2A) all contributed with two-points each. Vinc and Sid Smith both had an assist each. Game two goes tonight in Akwesasne at 7 p.m. and game three goes this Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena. If necessary, game four goes on Sunday at 2 p.m. depending on the Can/Am Sr. B series between Six Nations and Niagara. If not, it would go on Monday night at 7 p.m. Should a fifth game be needed, it would go next Wednesday night in Akwesasne at 8:30 p.m.
Jr. B Western Conference Finals full schedule now announced
Game one of the best-of-five Western Conference Finals between the Six Nations Rebels and the Elora Mohawks goes this Friday night at the Gaylord Powless Arena at 8 p.m. Game two goes next Wednesday in Elora at 8 p.m. Game three is back at the GPA on Friday, August 1 at 8 p.m. If necessary, game four goes Sunday, August 3 in Elora at 7 p.m. and game five would go Monday, August 4 at the GPA at 8 p.m. In the Eastern Conference Finals, Halton Hills takes on Mimico and they also get underway this Friday night.
Jr. A Indians successful in their appeal
The Akwesasne Indians won their appeal of the illegal player decision before last night’s game in Burlington. The Indians won game two, which was the game in question, but the OLA decided replay that game. Burlington won game five 10-7 last night at home to now lead the series 3-2. Game six (makeup of game two) goes tonight in Burlington at 8 p.m. and if necessary, game seven goes this Friday night in Akwesasne at 8:30 p.m.

Rebels advance to the Conference Finals
The Six Nations Rebels are off to the Western Conference Finals after defeating the Windsor AKO Fratmen 10-4 last night at the Forest Glade Arena to win the best-of-five Western Conference Semi-Final series 3-1. Randy Johnson made 36 saves to get the win. Leading the way for the Rebels was Alex Kedoh Hill (3G, 1A) and Cody Johnson (1G, 3A) with four points each. Elijah Johns (1G, 1A), Marty Hill (1G, 1A), Stu Hill (1G, 1A), and Andy Jamieson (2A) had two-point games. Single points were by Hawenaedas Thomas (1G), Jason Johns (1G), Clark Robinson (1G), Jeremy Johns (1A), Chancy Johnson (1A), Jesse Johnson (1A), and Kraig Maracle (1A). The Rebels next opponent is the Elora Mohawks who have yet to loss a game in the playoffs. Game one of the best-of-five Western Conference Finals goes this Friday night at the Gaylord Powless Arena at 8 p.m. The rest of the schedule is yet to be determined.
Arrows win game five
Playing at home is something the Six Nations Arrows really enjoy. Last night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena, the Arrows overcame a slow start to edge the Peterborough Lakers 8-7. The Arrows now lead the best-of-seven quarter-final series 3-2. Angus Goodleaf made 38 saves to get the win. Cody Jamieson led the way with three goals and an assist. Jacob Kicknosway-Loucks had a goal and two assists. Mitch Nanticoke (1G, 1A), Randy Staats (1G, 1A), Logan Kane (2A), and Ben Reaume (2A) all had two-point games. Single points were by Wayne VanEvery (1G), Chris Courtney (1G), Goodleaf (1A), Tyler Hill (1A), Holden Vyse (1A), and Tom Guadagnolo (1A). Game six goes Tuesday night at 8 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre. If necessary, game seven goes Thursday night at 8 p.m. at the ILA.
Sting advance to the Semi-Finals
The Six Nations Sting have advanced to the semi-finals where they will be taking on the Niagara Hawks. The Sting swept the Tonawanda Braves 2-0 in the Quarter-Finals with a 12-3 win on Friday night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena and a 8-5 win in Tonawanda on Saturday night. Game one of the best-of-three Semi-Final series goes this Friday night at the ILA. Game time is set for 8:30 p.m..
Chiefs claim the last playoff spot
The Six Nations have made the playoffs after getting help from the Peterborough Lakers who beat Barrie, the team that the Chiefs were battling with for the sixth and final playoff spot in the Major Series Lacrosse league. Both the Chiefs and Barrie finished the regular season with a 5-12-1 record but the Chiefs won the season series against the Lakeshores and so they got the last spot. Yesterday afternoon in Akwesasne, the Chiefs were edged 6-5 by the St. Regis Indians. The Chiefs and Indians will be facing each other in the first round of the playoffs in a best-of-five format which gets underway on Tuesday night in Akwesasne at 8:30 p.m.

Single points were by Eli Longboat (1G), Tom Guadagnolo (1A), Tyler Hill (1A), and Corbyn Tao (1A). Game four goes tonight in Peterborough at 8 p.m. and game five goes back to the ILA on Sunday at 7 p.m. If necessary, game six would go on Tuesday night in Peterborough at 8 p.m. and game seven would go on Thursday night at the ILA at 8 p.m.

Chiefs earn a tie on the road
The Six Nations Chiefs were in Kitchener-Waterloo last night to battle the Kodiaks and the end result was a 6-6 tie. Matt Vinc took the tie in net for the Chiefs. Cody Jacobs led the way with three goals. Cory Bomberry had two assists and Jason Henhawk, Clay Hill, and Roger Vyse also scored for the Chiefs. Dean Hill, Ben Powless, Tom Montour, Vinc, Scott Ditzell, and Craig Point all had an assist each. Now, both the Chiefs and Barrie are tied for the sixth and final playoff spot with 11 points. The last game of the season for Barrie is on Saturday as they host Peterborough. The Chiefs final regular season game is this Sunday afternoon as they travel to Akwesasne to battle the St. Regis Indians at 2 p.m.

The winning streak is over
The Six Nations Rebels were edged 7-6 by the Windsor AKO Fratmen in game two of their best-of-five Western Conference Semi-Final at the Forest Glade Arena on Tuesday night to make the series 1-1. Rebels hadn’t loss since Owen Sound beat them in a Western Conference Semi-Final game on July 15, 2007. Randy Johnson made 22 saves and was dealt the loss. Alex Kedoh Hill (3G) and Marty Hill (3A) both had three-point games. Jeremy Johns (2A) and Mike Miller (2A) had two-point games. Single points were by Stu Hill (1G), Brent Longboat (1G), Chancy Johnson (1G), Cody Johnson (1A), Randy Johnson (1A), and Clark Robinson (1A). Game three of the series goes on Friday night at the Gaylord Powless Arena at 8 p.m. Game four is back in Windsor on Sunday night at 7 p.m. If necessary, game five will be Monday night back at the GPA at 8 p.m.

Chiefs lose their second-straight game
The Six Nations chances at a playoff spot are slipping as they lost to the Peterborough Lakers 13-5 at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena last night. Ken Montour was in net and made some big saves but took the loss. Roger Vyse had two goals and singles were by Jason Henhawk, Tom Montour, and Travis Hill. The Chiefs are one-point behind Barrie for the sixth and final playoff in the Major Series Lacrosse league. Both have two games left to play. The Chiefs hit the road to take on Kitchener-Waterloo on Thursday night at 8 p.m. and on Sunday afternoon they head to Akwesasne to take on the St. Regis Indians at 2 p.m. Barrie’s two remaining games are against Brampton on Thursday night and against Peterborough on Saturday night.

The Six Nations Arrows got past the Peterborough Lakers by a score of 9-5 at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena on Monday night in game one of their best-of-seven quarter-final series. Angus Goodleaf made 27 saves to get the win. Ben Reaume led all point-getters with seven assists. Cody Jamieson had three goals and two assists. Tyler Hill scored twice and added an assist. Jacob Kicknosway-Loucks, Stu Hill, Josh Eldridge, and Wayne VanEvery all had a goal each. Holden Vyse, Logan Kane, and Chris Courtney all chipped in with an assist each. Game two goes tonight in Peterborough at 8 p.m. The Arrows are back at the ILA on Thursday at 8 p.m. for game three.

Iroquois Nationals capture the bronze
The Iroquois Nationals took care of business on Saturday as they captured their second-ever bronze medal at the 2008 ILF U-19 Men’s Lacrosse World Championships by defeating England 19-10. In 1999, the Nationals won their first bronze medal in Australia when they beat England. Emmett Printup led the way with six goals and an assist. Lyle Thompson had a four-point game with three goals and an assist. Peter Jacobs and Miles Thompson both had three goals each and James Cathers had two goals and an assist. Randy Staats had a goal and an assist and Dalton Powless added a goal. Jeffrey White made 10 saves to get the win. Emmett Printup led the tournament in goals with 33. The U.S. defeated Canada 19-12 in the gold medal game.

Rebels open the semi-finals with a win

The Six Nations Rebels opened their Western Conference Semi-Final series against the Windsor AKO Fratmen with a 9-4 win on Friday night at the Gaylord Powless Arena. Captain Stu Hill led the way with three goals and three assists. Randy Johnson picked up the win making 39 saves. Game two goes Tuesday night in Windsor at the Forest Glade Arena at 8 p.m. Game three is back at the GPA on Friday night at 8 p.m. If necessary, game four would go this Sunday in Windsor at 7 p.m. and game five would go on Monday night at the GPA at 8 p.m.

Arrows drop regular season finale
The Six Nations Arrows played their final game of the regular season on Saturday night in Akwesasne and lost 6-5 to the Indians. Cody Jamieson scored four goals and won the OLA Jr. A scoring title with 59 goals and 42 assists for 101 points. The Arrows begin the playoffs tonight as they host the Peterborough Lakers at 8 p.m. in the first game of their best-of-seven Quarter-Finals series. Game two goes Tuesday night in Peterborough at 8 p.m. Game three goes Thursday night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena at 8 p.m. Game four goes Friday night in Peterborough. If necessary, game five goes Sunday at the ILA at 7 p.m. Game six would go Tuesday, July 22 in Peterborough and game seven would go Thursday, July 24 at the ILA at 8 p.m.

Sting finish the season undefeated
In Can/Am Sr. B action, the Six Nations Sting finished off their regular season on Saturday with a 10-4 win over the Newtown Golden Eagles at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena. The Sting went undefeated with a record of 17-0-1. It is not yet known when their playoffs will begin but it will likely be this Friday night at the ILA.

Chiefs go one-for-two in weekend action
In major series lacrosse action, the Six Nations Chiefs were winners and losers over the weekend. On Friday night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena, the Chiefs beat the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks 15-12 in overtime. On Sunday afternoon, they hosted the St. Regis Indians and lost 11-8. They host the Peterborough Lakers on Tuesday night at 8 p.m.

Stars season ends in defeat
The Mohawk Stars season came to an end on Saturday night as they lost to the Owen Sound Woodsmen 16-11 at the Gaylord Powless Arena to lose their Quarter-Finals series 2-0. On Friday night in Owen Sound, the Stars were defeated 17-4 by the Woodsmen.

Iroquois Nationals lose to Canada in Semi-Finals
The Iroquois Nationals were defeated by Canada 23-12 in the Semi-Finals at the 2008 ILF U-19 World Lacrosse Championships in Coquitlam, B.C. on Thursday night. Peter Jacobs had four goals in the loss. Randy Staats, Elijah Printup, and Miles Thompson all had two goals each. Pierce Abrams and Lyle Thompson both had a goal. Jeffrey White started in net for the Nationals and he made seven saves in 37 minutes before being pulled in favour of Warren Hill, who played the remaining 43 minutes and he made six saves.  The Nationals will now play England in the Bronze Medal Game on Saturday at 11 a.m. pacific time. The Nationals defeated England 21-16 in round robin play. Canada will take on the undefeated United States in the Gold Medal Game on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. pacific time.

Arrows defeat Peterborough to finish in second
The Six Nations Arrows clinched second place in the OLA Jr. A series on Thursday night with a 9-5 win over the Peterborough Lakers at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena. The win improved the Arrows record to 16-5-0 for 32 points and it also gives them home floor advantage through the first two rounds of the playoffs. Angus Goodleaf picked up the win in net playing two periods before making way for Randy Johnson who played the entire third period. Cody Jamieson (1G, 4A) and Ben Reaume (5A) both had five-point games. Corbyn Tao (2G, 1A), Holden Vyse (2G, 1A), Wayne VanEvery (1G, 2A), and Jacob Kicknosway-Loucks (3A) all had three points. Richie Bennett (1G), Logan Kane (1G), Ely Longboat (1G), and Tyler Hill (1A) all had a point each. The Arrows finish off their regular season schedule in Akwesasne on Saturday night at 7 p.m. Their first game of the playoffs goes on Monday night as they host Peterborough at 8 p.m.

Iroquois Nationals move on to the semi-finals
The Iroquois Nationals had no trouble at all getting past Scotland last night in their quarter-final game at the 2008 ILF U-19 World Lacrosse Championships in Coquitlam, B.C. as they cruised to a 28-2 win. Miles Thompson led the way with four goals and three assists. Andrew Cordia had a five-point game with two goals and three assists. James Cathers and Peter Jacobs both had four goals. Jeremy Johns, Emmett Printup, and Michael White all had three goals. Lyle Thompson scored two goals and Randy Staats had a goal and an assist. Dalton Powless and Elijah Printup both had a goal. Warren Hill stopped eight of the 10 shots that he faced to get the win. The Nationals now move on to face Canada in the semi-finals on Thursday night at 7:15 p.m. pacific time. Canada defeated the Nationals 15-12 in round robin play.

Arrows hold on to defeat Brampton
The Six Nations Arrows edged the Brampton Excelsiors 6-5 on Tuesday night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena. Angus Goodleaf made 39 saves to pick up the win. He also contributed offensively with three assists. Cody Jamieson and Wayne VanEvery both had two goals. Logan Kane and Six Nations Rebels callup Stu Hill had a goal each. Barna Robinson, Corbyn Tao, Ben Reaume, Holden Vyse, Jacob Kicknosway-Loucks, and Josh Eldridge all chipped in with an assist. Also, called up for the game was Peter Hill from the Six Nations Rebels. The Arrows are now in second place with a record of 15-5-0. They take on the Peterborough Lakers on Thursday night at the ILA. Game time is set for 8 p.m. If the Arrows win, they can clinch second place and home floor advantage for the first two rounds of the playoffs. The Arrows conclude their regular season on Saturday night as they travel to Akwesasne to battle the Indians at 7 p.m.
Rebels now know their semi-final opponent
The Six Nations Rebels will open their best-of-five Western Conference Semi-Final series on Friday night when they host the Windsor AKO Fratmen. Game time is set for 8 p.m. at the Gaylord Powless Arena. In their only meeting in the regular season, the Rebels defeated Windsor 10-7 back on May 24. Game two will go Tuesday, July 15 at 8 p.m. in Windsor. Game three will be on Friday, July 18 at 8 p.m. at the GPA. If necessary, game four would go Sunday, July 20 at 7 p.m. in Windsor and game five would go Monday, July 21 at 8 p.m. at the GPA.

Arrows go one-for-two in weekend action

The Six Nations Arrows suffered their fifth loss of the season on Friday night as they hit the road to battle the last-place Mississauga Tomahawks and came away with a 7-4 loss. Ben Reaume, Mitch Nanticoke, Wayne VanEvery, and Brock Smith scored for the Arrows in the loss. On Sunday night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena, the Arrows doubled up the St. Catharines Athletics 8-4. Angus Goodleaf made 28 saves to get the win. Corbyn Tao led the scoring with three goals. Wayne VanEvery had a pair and singles went to Reaume, Cody Jamieson, and Josh Eldridge. Next action for the Arrows is on Tuesday night as they host the Brampton Excelsiors at 8 p.m. After that, they welcome the Peterborough Lakers to the ILA on Thursday for an 8 p.m. game. They close out the regular season on Saturday night in Akwesasne.

OHSWEKEN- The Six Nations Rebels continue to roll along as they defeated the Wallaceburg Red Devils 17-2 at the Gaylord Powless Arena on Wednesday night to win the series 3-0. Randy Johnson picked up the win between the pipes. Cody Johnson led the way with five goals and three assists. Game one of the Western Conference Semi-Finals is set to start Friday, July 11 at the GPA at 8 p.m. Opponent is yet to be determined.

 
Arrows edged by St. Catharines
The Six Nations Arrows struggles on the road continue as they were defeated 10-9 by the St. Catharines Athletics on Wednesday night. Angus Goodleaf took the loss in goal. Cody Jamieson had four goals and two assists. The Arrows have now dropped three-straight road games and have only two wins in their last five games. They also slipped to fourth place with 26 points. Next action for the Arrows is Friday night as they travel to Mississauga for an 8 p.m. game. After that, they return home on Sunday to battle St. Catharines at 7 p.m. and then they host Brampton at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
