Research Assistant
For
First Nation Health Careers

The Research Assistant works under Coordinator/Researcher and the Executive Director of ONECA
Summary
The main focus of the position is to research and collect on-line resources on health careers for First Nations and to provide support to the Coordinator/Researcher. The on-line resources will be uploaded to the ONECA Transitions Portal. The Research Assistant will work collaboratively with the Coordinator/Research and the ONECA Site Administrator to ensure that the project goals are fulfilled.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for assisting with the research
- Provide support to the Coordinator/Researcher and the Site Administrator
- Research and identify on-line health career information that supports First Nations
- Collate and organize materials to fit into sub-headings already established in the Transitions Portal
- Test website to ensure the links are functional
- Assist with the preparation of a database of resources
- Contact stake holders to identify potential resources and websites
- Communicate and provide materials to the Site Administrator
- Assist the coordinator to prepare for steering committee meetings
- Distribute and promote the site to First Nations
- Assist with the preparation of reports and proposals to funders
- Assist with the coordination and preparation of site
- Report to the FNHRI Partners at their scheduled meetings
- Assist the coordinator with the preparation of a marketing plan
Required Knowledge
- 3-5 years proven experience in research
- High personal motivation, self management and detail orientation
- Ability to take responsibility for meeting deadlines and making progress without direct supervision
- Strong spoken and written communications
- Knowledge of health careers
- Excellent computer skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Research experience including database development
- Ability to upload materials and web-links to the site
- Excellent knowledge of web development
- Excellent skills in proposal writing and fundraising
- Excellent understanding of First Nation communities in Ontario
- Experience leading teams and work groups
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of community needs and initiatives
- Excellent report writing skills
- Fluency in First Nations language an asset
Preferred Knowledge/Skills
- Must provide a CPIC
- Valid drivers license and reliable vehicle
- Knowledge of roles and responsibilities of province and federal government with regards to education
- Aware of First Nation protocols
- Able to travel to meetings
Location
ONECA office at Whitefish Lake
Term of Employment
The position runs from November 19, 2012 to March 31, 2013
