Project Coordinator/Researcher

First Nation Health Careers
Authority
The research consultant works under the Executive Director of ONECA
Purpose
The main focus of the position is to research and collect on-line resources on health careers for First Nations. This information will be uploaded to the ONECA Transitions Portal. The Coordinator/Researcher will work collaboratively with the Research Assistant and the ONECA Site Administrator to ensure that the project goals are fulfilled.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the coordination of the project and its activities
- Research and identify on-line health career information that supports First Nations
- Collate and organize materials to fit into sub-headings already established in the Transitions Portal
- Over -see and provide direction to the Research Assistant
- Communicate and provide materials to the Site Administrator
- Reporting to and working with the steering committee
- Distribute and promote the site to First Nations
- Prepare and submit reports and proposals to funders
- Coordinate and prepare a demonstration of the site
- Report to the FNHRI Partners at their scheduled meetings
- Create a marketing plan
- Prepare a final report including a financial report
- Work with partners and establish a network of partners to support the project
Required Knowledge
- 3-5 years proven experience in research
- High personal motivation, self management, and detail orientation
- Able to take responsibility for meeting deadlines and making progress without direct supervision
- Strong spoken and written communication skills
- Strong existing computer skills and the capacity to learn new software and research methods
- Articulate and tactful communications skills, readiness to meet and work directly with partners
- Knowledge of health careers
- Research experience including database development
- Excellent knowledge of web development
- Excellent skills in proposal writing and fundraising
- Excellent understanding of First Nation communities in Ontario
- Excellent understanding of First Nation schools and the provincial school system
- Experience leading teams and work groups
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of community needs and initiatives
- Excellent report writing skills
- Understanding of role of First Nation Counsellors
- Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques
- Fluency in First Nations language an asset
Preferred Knowledge/Skills
- Must provide a CPIC
- Valid drivers license and reliable vehicle
- Knowledge of roles and responsibilities of province and federal government with regards to education
- Aware of First Nation protocols
- Able to travel to meetings
Location
Coordinator/Researcher is not required to be housed at the ONECA office at Whitefish Lake.
Term of Employment
The position runs from November 19, 2012 to March 31, 2013
