to Address Education Crisis Facing First Nations
WINNIPEG, July 21 / - Assembly of First Nations (AFN) National Chief Shawn
A-in-chut Atleo and First Nations representatives will hold a press conference
on Thursday, July 22 at the AFN's 31st Annual General Assembly to unveil a plan
towards true education reform in order to improve First Nations education
outcomes. These solutions are driven by First Nations and offer a responsible
alternative to third party reports that reflect external agendas.
Advancing First Nations education and First Nations control of First Nations
education is consistent with work aimed at reconciliation following the
Residential Schools Apology issued by Prime Minister Harper, and the beginning
of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission process.
AFN National Chief Atleo will be joined by long-time First Nations expert and
advocate Chief Gilbert Whiteduck of Kitigan Zibi First Nation and members of the
AFN Executive at the press conference. |
