Assembly of First Nations Offers Condolences on Passing of The Hon. Jim Flaherty

(Ottawa, ON) – Assembly of First Nations National Chief Shawn A-in-chut Atleo today offered prayers and condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of former Finance Minister the Honourable Jim Flaherty, who served as an elected representative in the Ontario and federal government for a total of almost twenty years. Mr. Flaherty passed away at his Ottawa home earlier this afternoon.

Mr. Flaherty resigned from his position as federal Finance Minister March 18 of this year, with plans to enter the private sector. His wife Christine Elliott, who is deputy leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservatives, issued a statement on behalf of their three sons, expressing profound sadness and requesting privacy at this time.

The Assembly of First Nations is the national organization representing First Nations citizens in Canada.
