The Making Noise Media Collective is seeking a dynamic and politically conscious individual committed to social justice, media literacy and anti-oppression to coordinate a project mobilizing racialized young women in Toronto. The role of the Media and Outreach Coordinator is to connect with community members and young women interested in joining the project, and assist them in engaging their peers and community members in a city-wide conversation about gender-based violence prevention, and to coordinate all media created during the project. The initiative will work to develop a collectively created model of community accountability by linking people to shared resources, media literacy workshops and training. The goal is for participants to emerge with an increased understanding of self, society, oppression, and responsibility. In addition to how gender violence looks and manifests in their community and the need for communities to work together to eradicate it. This position reports to the Project Coordinator.

Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the Urban Alliance on Race Relations the Public Education Coordinator will:

· Ensure the Gender Violence Community Accountability Media Project mandate is carried out
· Coordinate a Public Education Committee of consultants, partner organizations, and youth
· Conduct research activities on relevant materials for gender violence and community accountability curriculum and resource package
· Develop Curriculum in consultation with Project Coordinator, Youth Advisory Committee, Project Partners and other community members for Workshops on Gender Violence and Community Accountability
· Coordinate community mappings with project partners, consultants, and others
· Create a Resource Package of materials used at the end of the year
· Research and enter videos produced in Gender Violence Community Accountability Media Project into local, national, and international film festivals
· Act as an advocate and provide general information and referral services to youth on social justice, human rights, anti-racism, political, and social services
· Work collaboratively with existing youth-led initiatives and attend and co-facilitate Youth Advisory Committee Meetings
· Co-facilitate a retreat, Gender Violence Awareness workshops, and all other planning meetings
· Fulfill all administrative requirements of the job
· Create and facilitate workshops on gender violence and community accountability alongside the Project Coordinator, Media and Outreach Coordinator and Partner Organizations, including media camps
· Write monthly progress reports and work with Project Coordinator to complete Interim and Final Reports for funders

Qualifications:
The Public Education Coordinator will be a creative and enthusiastic organizer with the following qualifications:
* A post-secondary degree/certificate or relevant experience in a related field
* Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing and computer skills
* A sound understanding and strong commitment to equity and youth engagement
* A combination of experiences in youth mobilization, anti-racism, community development and gender violence (3-5 years)
* Excellent understanding of Toronto’s various high needs communities
* Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively within a team
* Excellent organization and facilitation skills
* Previous experience working with collectives and networks an asset
* Multi-lingual skills an asset
* Ability to work flexible hours including afternoons and evenings
Period of Work: Part-time, one year contract WITH OPTION TO RENEW

Primarily based in Toronto, the Outreach Coordinator will be expected to travel across the City of Toronto, with explicit focus on the project partners.

Compensation: $22/ hr MAXIMUM 26 HOURS PER WEEK
